Writer-journalist Om Thanvi felicitated with Bihari Puraskar

Governor Kalyan Singh today felicitated noted writer and journalist Om Thanvi with 'Bihari Puraskar-2014' for his book 'Muanjodaro', a travelogue which traces remains of the Indus Valley Civilization.

The function was held at Raj Bhawan

Instituted by the K K Birla Foundation in 1991, Bihari Puraskar is given annually to an outstanding literary work in Hindi or Rajasthani published during last 10 years by a Rajasthani writer.

The Governor appreciated the initiative of the K K Birla foundation to institute the award to honour the creativity of the Rajasthani writers.

In literary circles, 55-year-old Thanvi is known for his unique style of story telling in simple and lucid language.

The award carries a cash purse of Rs one lakh, a citation and a plaque.

The selection was made by a six-member panel of academicians.

Thanvi was born on August 1, 1959 in Falaudi in Jodhpur.

He had worked in Patrika and Saptahik Itvari Patrika before joining Hindi daily Jansatta in 1989.

The Foundation director Suresh Rituparna and others were present in the function.
