Aimed at connecting children with nature and building awareness about the role of birds in the cities, a wildlife body today launched 'Young Birders Forum' here.

"WWF-India today launched the 'Young Birders Forum' with 'Know Your Garden Birds', a workshop aimed at connecting children with nature," according to an official statement.

The workshop intends to build awareness in children and youths about the role and relevance of birds in the cities and inspire them to become ambassadors of conservation.

Children between the age group of 8 to 16 years across Delhi NCR participated in the event.

The workshop kicked off with a brief walk to observe birds designed to provide an integrated experience, knowledge, admiration and responsibility in students towards their surrounding environment.

This was followed by an interactive session on common birds that are spotted in local parks and gardens.

"With the intervention of virtual games and gadgets in today's technology driven world, children have got disconnected from nature, hence, it is essential to bring them back to nature," WWF-India, Environment Education Director Radhika Suri said.
