Youth Test: Ferrario hits as India declare at 431 for 8

Press Trust of India Nagpur
Daryl Ferrario hit a fighting ton, while Sujumon Joseph chipped in with a well-made half- century as India U-19 cricket team scored 431 for 8 declared in their first innings against England on the third day of the first Youth Test match here today.

Replying to the visitors' first edition score of 501 for 5 declared, Indian batsmen faced a few hiccups but coasted to 431 for 8 and declared the innings in the post-tea session at the VCA Stadium at Jamtha near here.

The hosts lost overnight batsmen Jonty Singh (33) and R Thakur (31) in a short span of time, but Ferrario fought back and made a well-crafted century to provide stability to the Indian innings.

His 117 was decorated with 14 hits to the boundary. He was ably supported by Joseph, who remained unbeaten on 62.

England, in their second essay, were 23 for 1 in eight overs, losing the wicket of opener Max Holder 8, who fell to K Seth.

At the draw of stumps on the penultimate day, Harry Brook was batting on 15 and giving him company was Gentry Brooke, who was yet to open his account.

With just one day left in the four-day match, a result looks unlikely.

Brief scores: England 1st innings 501 for 5 declared; India 1st innings 431 for 8 declared; England 2nd innings 23 for 1.
