Zinc futures climbed 0.67 per cent to Rs 143.10 per kg today after speculators built up bets on the back of a firming trend overseas amid a rising demand in the domestic spot market.

In futures trading at the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in July was trading higher 95 paise or 0.67 per cent at Rs 143.10 per kg in a business turnover of 918 lots.

The metal for delivery in August contracts gained 90 paise or 0.63 per cent to Rs 143.60 per kg with a business volume of 18 lots.

Globally, zinc for delivery in three months gained 0.8 per cent to settle at USD 2,104.50 per tonne at the London Metal Exchange (LME) after touching USD 2,116, the highest since mid-July amid forecasts of supply deficits.

According to marketmen, a firming trend in the base metal pack in yesterday's trading at the LME and uptick in demand at domestic spot markets from consuming industries supported the upside.
