Sandhu shot 72 at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges.
Mansher Singh was close second with 71 while Anirudh Singh was at the third place with 69.
Prithviraj Tondaiman 67 finished fifth after he shot 67, and he was followed by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president, Raninder Singh, (67), who qualified for the tournament after finishing 13th in the last nationals -- a shooter has to finish in the top-15 to be deemed eligible for the tournament.
Ryaan Rizvi (66) and Girdhar Pratap Singh (66) were tied seventh. The next 50 birds will be shot tomorrow, following which the medal ceremony will be held.
The competition, on invitation on the basis of performances in the last national championship, started with the trap event.

The double trap will be held on Thursday and skeet will take place on Saturday and Sunday, when the competition concludes.
The double trap will be held September 20 and the skeet will feature on September 22 and 23.
The competition will be followed by two set of selection trials in shotgun. The first set of trials will be from September 26 to 29 and the second will be from October 1 to 4.
