Hysea forum seeks 25 acre for SME clusters

SMEs account for 10% of the Rs 64,000-cr software exports from Telangana

BS Reporter Hyderabad
The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) forum of Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (Hysea) today sought between 15 and 25 acre within the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) proposed to be set up in and around Hyderabad for creation of SME clusters, said its vice president Murali Bollu.

“Though SMEs account for 10 per cent of the Rs 64,000-crore software exports from Telangana, they face a whole set of challenges, including low profit margins because of overhead costs and scale. SME clusters would help them overcome most of these challenges,” he said at Hysea’s Annual Summit and Awards 2015 event today.

Earlier in his address, Harpreet Singh, ITE&C secretary to the Telangana government, said T-Hub, the country's largest startup incubation centre being set up at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Hyderabad, would be ready and functional in June.

“While head honchos of companies like Cyient Limited and Tech Mahindra are already on the board of T-Hub, we are now in the process of getting companies from Silicon Valley to join them. We are looking for a global team .. who not only connect Hyderabad to major cities in India but also overseas,” he said.

Stating that T-Hub was not just for plain startups, Singh said of the 800 seats in the centre, 400 would be for beginners, and 200 for companies that already prototyped their products and are gearing up to go to the market. “The remaining seats are for 20 firms that are in the early growth phase,” he added.
