Apple Computer Inc., which lost more than $900 million during Gilbert Amelios tenure, paid its former chairman $9.3 million in salary and severance after he was ousted in July, company documents show. Amelio, who led the struggling computer maker from February 1996 until July, received $6.75 million as part of his severance package, according to a proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. Apple also paid Amelio $997,617 in salary, a $1 million bonus as part of his 1997 compensation package and $509,350 in stock.
