Activity Low

BSCAL

With the settlement at Mumbai inducing caution, activity declined yesterday on the Calcutta stock exchange as the new account began. The turnover was small and undertone quietly steady.

The mood, however, remained positive because of continued inflow of encouraging corporate results, brokers said. ITC, which had been the focus of attention, movednarrowly before finishing down at Rs. 297, while Tisco looked up at Rs 182.50, drawing inspiration from the improved half-yearly performance. But receded to close at Rs 179.

ACC closed at Rs 1520, SBI at Rs 229.50 and Reliance at Rs 196 while L & T changed hands at Rs 222. Among others CESC settled at Rs 54.50, Jaiprakash at Rs 15.25, Hind Motor at Rs 18.10 and IPCL at Rs 112. In the non-specified list ITC Classic was quoted at Rs 39, SCICI at Rs 29 and Orkay at Rs 5.50.
