Cadila In Pact For Biotech Transfers

Ahmedabad-based Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd has tied up with the department of biotechnology, Government of India, for biotechnology transfers in the field of plant tissue culture, bio-fertilisers and animal feed supplements.
The company will use the technologies in its agrovet strategic business unit (SBU) called CAVETAG.
The technologies include tissue culture-raised teak, poplar and sugarcane and a bio-fertiliser called `Mycorrhiza'.

The tissue culture-raised teak technology, developed by the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune, will be made available by CPL in the market in July this year. A cost-effective technology, the method helps produce large amounts of the plant in a short time-span.
The tissue culture-raised sugarcane and poplar plants will be launched in November, 2000, and February, 2001, respectively.
The former has been made by the National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, while the latter by Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI), New Delhi.
