The $4.5-billion Computer Associates International Inc (CA) has further firmed up its special relationship with India by signing a global agreement with the $650-million HCL Corporation in a move to leverage on the latters worldwide professional services group.

Computer Associates clinched the deal with HCL Corporation by signing an agreement with HCL group chairman Shiv Nadar at its on-going CA World 1998 international conference.

The agreement will see HCL providing CAs clients, the world over, a broad spectrum of professional services like training and education, implementation services and a full range of on-site and offshore consulting services for CAs just launched new network management solution Unicenter TNG.

The move is expected to greatly help HCLs plan of turning into a global corporation in the information technology (IT) business.

The agreement, which coincided with the launch of CAs mega global launch of Unicentre TNG version 2.2, its latest next generation enterprise network management solution, will tremendously boost HCLs global revenues. The group now covers 80 per cent of the worldwide IT services market.

Out of an estimated global market of between $3- 4 billion for enterprise network management solution, HCL is likely to get a major share out of Unicenter business by taking care of its end-to-end solution in nearly 20 countries where it now has presence.

At present, HCLs global operations have grown to over $ 300 million.

Its latest tie-up with CA follows Perot Systems, Deluxe Corp, James Martin, General Instruments CSK of Japan, and Logica (UK).

The agreement will also crystallise into a Unicentre TNG centre of excellence, in support of CAs flagship product around the world. The centre will address individual users at global level.

Under the agreement, HCLs various organisations like HCL Technology, NIIT, etc, will offer services in three categories: certified training and education; specialised professional services including implementation and global roll-out, and collaborative advantage software consulting.

CAs clients and partners around the world will benefit from the seamless integration of education and professional services made possible by this announcement, said Sanjay Kumar, CA president and chief operation officer.

HCLs tightly-focused professional services will provide the much-needed value-added support that CAs clients the world over require, he said.

The combination of CAs award-winning enterprise management products and HCLs business-oriented service offerings provide Unicenter TNG users around the world with further opportunities to leverage their infrastructure requirements, said Shiv Nadar.

According to Vijay K Thadani, president, and CEO, NIIT, the company has already drawn the roll-out plans for USA, UK, India and Hong Kong. NIIT has also announced the launch of its first CBT on CAs Unicenter TNG framework at CA World 1998.
