Ed To Seek Legal Advice Before Next Move Against Manu Chhabria

BSCAL

K K Kabirpanthi, deputy director, enforcement directorate (eastern region), said legal advice would be taken on Monday and only then can we say anything. Assistant director, D S Benupani, had on Friday said that a final decision on the next move to interrogate Chhabria would be taken on Saturday.

Kabirpanthi said, as it was a weekly holiday on Saturday, we could not take any decision but will definitely do something on the next working day.

Chhabria, at present in Dubai, had been issued summons by the ED to appear before it for interrogation on November 27, but he defied the summons on the ground that as an NRI he could not be forced to come to the directorate. He, however, in a fax message to the directorate had offered to cooperate if any official of the enforcement department met him in Dubai. The offer was, however, rejected by Benupani who said that Chhabria had committed the crime in India as the chairman of an Indian company and he would have to come here.
