Eu Calls For Global Rules For Competition

One of the reasons why the Japanese economy is not so open is because they do not have a competition policy like we and the US have, Van Miert told a seminar organised by a Brussels think-tank, the Centre for European Policy Studies.

Countries that have a competition policy or authority are ipso facto opening their markets, he added, singling out the case of the European telecommunications sector which is set for full liberalisation by January 1, 1998.
