BSCAL

The Union mines ministry has granted lease to different companies for mining bauxite and limestone in Orissa and Rajasthan.

The Orissa Mining Corporation has been granted lease for mining bauxite over an area of 1388.74 hectares in Rayagada and Kalahandi districts of Orissa.

The corporation will in turn transfer the lease to a 100 per cent export-oriented alumina plant with a capacity of one million tonne a year, to be implemented by Indal, Tata industry and Hydro Industries of Norway.

The ministry granted mining lease to Indo-Nippon special cement for mining limestone over an area of 6.35 sq km in Nagpur district of Rajasthan in June 1997.

The company will be investing Rs 400 crore in the cement plant, which would achieve an annual capacity of one million tonnes within one year of execution of lease and increase to 1.5 million tonnes within five years.

Grasim industries has been granted prospecting licence for limestone quarrying over an area of 462 hectares in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.

The licence is for a period of two years, and a cement plant would be set up with a capacity of two million tonnes during the same period.

In April this year, the ministry had approved in favour of Larsen & Toubro for prospecting limestone over an area of about 43 sq km in Pali and Rajasamand districts of Rajasthan, an official release said.
