Govt To Remove Bottlenecks In Power Policy

BSCAL

Speaking at the Indo-British power workshop organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Abraham said the government was determined to extend the counter guarantees as soon as possible.

Conceding that the power capacity addition programme had failed to meet expectations, the official said the government would soon revamp the power policy and remove the bottlenecks.

He said more and more state electricity boards (SEB's) were being restructured and commercialised as a result of which subsidised or free supply of power to the agriculture sector would gradually disappear.

The government would soon bring out legislation to enable the private sector to participate in transmission and distribution sector, the official added.

Speaking of liquid fuel, Abraham pointed out that the earlier policy was announced on the basis of an assurance from the oil and petroleum ministry on the availability of fuel. Now that the ministry has said the fuel will not be available, the government was working on a new policy, Abraham said.
