Ibm Unveils Database Management Thrust

IBM Software Solutions, a division of Tata IBM, has carved out plans to consolidate its position in the Indian database management market.
For starters, the company has made its leading product DB2 Universal Database compatible across all computing platforms. In addition, the product is web-ready with enhanced portability and supports all Java applications. In an interview with Business Standard, IBM Software Solutions country marketing manager Vanit Arora said, "We will be focussing extensively on this product and will be backed by a strong team which will co-ordinate with system integrators and solution providers on this platform."
"DB2 Universal Database has the best complement of scalebility, reliability and a broad range of features, which makes it an excellent selection when an enterprise is building a large data warehouse," Arora said. The marketing team will be supported by Independent Software Vendor (ISV) program and will compliment the existing user with other platforms. The company will also be leveraging its alliance with Middleware vendors to assist in the porting of this DB2 with other platforms.

Talking further about the features of DB2, he said, "this reliable, versatile and scaleable product stores, amanges and retrieves data and it operates according to defined rules for security, multiple-user access, and data management. No matter how large your Windows NT environment, DB2 keeps data safe, secure and easily accessible. And, if you want to weave in audio, video, graphic, text and other non-traditional data types, it will handle it all with ease."
Supporting this product is IBM's VisualAge tools which combines the industry's best compilers and visual language construction with multi-protocol gateways, multi-databases, and multi-languages. "They also provide the highest level of abstraction, class libraries and industry standards support. With its ability to mix and match environments such as networks, LAN-to-host, LAN-to-LAN, and LAN-to-Internet communications, this VisualAge family of products will give the enterprise the flexibility it is looking for," Arora said.
