Index Loses 9 Points

News of the rejection of former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao's bail application led to a major fall in the Delhi Stock Exchange Index by 9.39 points.

The Index which, on Wednesday closed at 737.31 points, closed at 727.92 points, one of the lowest in recent times. Trading on the JVG Departmental Store scrip was suspended one day.

Most major pivotals suffered losses. The SBI opened at Rs 264 and after touching a low of Rs 257.75, closed at Rs 259.10. It, however, maintained high volumes, with a turnover of Rs 54.55 crore, followed by Reliance with Rs 25.21 crore and Tisco with Rs 19.05 crore.

 

Reliance opened at Rs 196, and closed at Rs 194, after recording a low of Rs 192.70. ACC also lost heavily. Opening at Rs 1827, it touched a low of Rs 1786 and closed at Rs 1790. The total volume of turnover at the bourse was about Rs 110 crore.
