The insat-2d, Indias most advanced communication satellite launched in June this year, was switched off indefinitely yesterday following a major power failure on board amid fears that the satellite may have to be abandoned soon.
The power failure led to the satellite losing its earth lock, a mechanism that directs the satellite towards the earth, at 2200 hours on Wednesday night para-lysing the 24 on-board communication transponders.
The gravity of the damage was, however, not fully felt yesterday as it was a national holiday with most customers like the National Stock Exchange
