Niit To Set Up China Subsidiary Via Joint Venture

Global IT solutions major NIIT Ltd is poised to set up a subsidiary in China through a joint venture with TVE International, a Chinese firm which belongs to the Kuok group of companies.
The new entity, to be called NIIT China will be steered by NIIT chairman Rajendra S Pawar, while Rahul Patwardhan has been named as the managing director of the company. Prakash Menon will be heading the company's China operations.
While NIIT will leverage its technical strength, TVE International, the joint venture partner, will provide the marketing support for the new company.

TVE International, which is part of the Kuok group of companies having significant investments in main land China, manages the Shangrila hotel chain, Kerry properties and the South China Morning Post, a newspaper which circulates in Hong Kong.
The joint venture proposes to support China's rapidly growing economic and business environment, and NIIT China will work towards attaining a leading position in e-commerce and knowledge management in that country.
According to an NIIT spokesperson, the move is strategic as China is rapidly adapting to the new economy and looking at means to address its IT manpower shortage. He said the new subsidiary would help boost software development capabilities and will strive towards creating a vibrant e-commerce based economy.
NIIT China would provide solutions in e-commerce, Internet, knowledge management, systems integration and enterprise resource planning domain. It will also set up corporate virtual universities.
With the Chinese foray the NIIT will have exposure to a large number of customers both in the government and private sector.
NIIT TVE has been successfully operating in China since early 1998 in association with Pudong Continuing Education Centre under the Education Commission of Shanghai. The venture company is working towards building a large IT manpower pool by enhancing knowledge assets of individuals and organisations.
