Oecf Team Scrutinising Aid For Delhi Metro

BSCAL

The Japanese delegation is also collecting relevant information on both the construction problems of the Metro as well as its operational difficulties. The team has been shuttling between Calcutta and Delhi for the last few months. The report is expected to be submitted to OECF by March, 1997.

The study team is working for the OECF Special Assistance For Project Sustainability (SAPS) for Calcutta Metro Railways (Phase II) Construction Project. It is headed by Shu Ichikawa, an operation engineer. Other members of the team are, Akihisa Kojima, the Economic Analyst, Roger John Roberts, Planning Engineer, Masakatsu Shizukuda, the Signal & Telecom Engineer, John Alfred Wrighton, the Rolling Stock Engineer, and, Toshio Nemoto, the Tunnel Engineer.

Metro Railway sources said OECF had provided a small loan of 4.8 billion Yen for the construction of the Metro for importing special equipment and training personnel in its use. The assistance came in September, 1983.

When OECF approached the Railway Board to study the construction and operational problems of the Calcutta Metro, the Board did not object.

The Board was given to understand that OECF which was considering a large loan assistance for the metro project for Delhi wanted to educate itself from the Calcutta experience.
