Pivotals Gain Marginally

The new settlement opened on a optimistic note on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday as pivotals closed higher compared to their previous close.
The NSE-50 index opened at 1030.35, touched the day's high of 1044.15, declined to touch the day's low of 1018.15 and later closed at 1041.65, showing a net gain of 10.60 points over the previous close of 1031.05. Similarly the Midcap index closed higher by 17.05 points to 1139.35 against the previous close of 1122.30.

The total turnover reported during the day amounted to Rs 1483.84 crore. The market leader SBI stood first in the list of turnover by registering highest of Rs 380.39 crore, followed by Reliance Rs 373.57 crore, ITC Rs 260.86 crore, Telco Rs 87.71 crore and ACC Rs 69.52 crore.
Hectic activity was seen in counters like Tisco Rs 58.91 crore, Bajaj Auto Rs 29.11 crore, BSES Rs 18.93 crore, MTNL Rs 17.17 crore, L&T Rs 14.38 crore, BoI Rs 14.15 crore, Bhel Rs 13.73 crore, Nestle Rs 9.40 crore, HLL Rs 9.27 crore, Glaxo Rs 6.07 crore, Orchid Chem Rs 5.94 crore, VSNL Rs 5.06 crore, Bata Rs 4.90 crore, ICICI Rs 4.88 crore, Hero Honda Rs 4.17 crore, Castrol Rs 4.09 crore, OBC Rs 3.79 crore, Colgate Rs 3.20 crore and Gujarat Ambuja Rs 3.02 crore.
The top five gainers were Tata Tea, Bajaj Auto, Castrol India, IPCL and M&M. The top five losers were Essar Steel, Cochin Refineries, Grasim Industries, Andhra Valley and Bhel.
Meanwhile equity prices improved further on persistent support from speculators at the Otcei. The composite index opened higher at 83.99 and shot up to a high of 84.73 before profittaking reduced the gains and it closed at 84.39, gaining 0.79 over the previous close.
The total turnover was Rs 41.67 lakh involving 41,296 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed debentures of Rs 33.09 lakh from 7,475 debentures.
