Shilpa Garg BSCAL

Pugmarks InterWeb plans a major thrust in overseas ventures in the Internet business. A major restructuring of the company is also being planned.

Pugmarks is based in Chandigarh and has recently raised funds abroad.

"We foresee some major alliances this year in the area of e-commerce, e-commerce enablers, software companies and service providers that will help our business gain strategic value and thrust," director K S Suri told Business Standard.

"At the moment we are exploring various options and in six weeks time we would be defining our restructuring plans," he said.

"We are targeting a 10-fold increase in our turnover as compared to the last year's turn over to reach over Rs 30 crore in this financial year," Suri said.

Pugmarks is also incubating projects in the US, UK and India. A major thrust in its operations are expected to come from overseas projects.

It now plans to focus on advanced solutions in hosting large portals, providing online banner management and site promotional services, B2C e-commerce solutions and design & development of portals and large sites.

"We will be concentrating a lot on product servicing and doing work in the field of ASP services," he added.

The new production facilities for Pugmarks are coming up in a 30,000 sq ft exclusive building at Chandigarh in addition to the existing office which is spread over 4,000 sq ft in that city. It is slated to house over 350 professionals apart from the company's current team of over 100 professionals.

Expanding their current office network from the US, Calcutta, Chandigarh and Mumbai, the company has moved its US operations to the large co-location facilities of Exodus in Chicago, which is one of the largest and most advanced data centres in the world.

Exodus has leased enough space to house over 100 dedicated machines for Pugmarks. It also houses servers for Yahoo, Hotmail, Merrill Lynch and the likes.

Entering its fifth year of operations, Pugmarks has recorded a 300 per cent year-on-year growth in revenues in the last four years. "We have a strong focus on the bottomline as much as on the topline revenues," he said.

Pugmarks hosts close to 4,000 websites on its network, services over 30 leading portals in India and is one of the largest traffic drivers of the country, serving over 200 million hits per month from its network in Exodus.

The client base of Pugmarks includes companies across a cross-section of industries including publications like Computer World, indianpurchase.com and indiatrade.com among others.
