The Tamil Nadu annual plan outlay for 1997-98 was finalised at a meeting between deputy chairman Planning Commission Madhu Dandavate and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here yesterday.
The state plan has been agreed at Rs 4000 crore against Rs 3,700 crore for the current financial year, showing an 8.1 per cent increase.
The Planning Commission deputy chairman complimented the state for realistic plan projections but felt suitable measures were needed to improve the health of the state electricity board, incurring losses primarily due to the free sale of electricity to farmers.
Dandavate said the lag in power generation was adversely affecting the pace of industrial development. Production in the secondary sector was showing recessionary trends and required immediate attention.
