Systems Failure Mars Trade

The Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE)-40 index lost 63 points ot close at 1894.57 points yesterday from its previous closing of 1957.47, despite bullish sentiments. The index opened at the previous closing level, but slipped to 1814.06 points in the first half of the day. If later recovered to climb to a high of 1908.77 points.
Trading yesterday was marred by a system failure by which some buy/sell orders from Friday were transferred to the day's trading session. There was chaos in the market on account of this system goof up. This was also responsible for lower trrade volume of Rs 793.47 crore on the bourse.
Among the major gainers yesterday were Satyam Computers, HLL, Silverline Industries, ITC, Rolta India and Digital Equipment, Satyam Computer gained Rs 34 to close at Rs 2,886.30, whiel HLL was up Rs 87 at Rs 2,312.90. Silverline Insustries advanced Rs 33.60 to Rs 2,886.30, while ITC gained Rs 27 at 579.30.
Reliance Industries, Bata and ACC were marginal gainers. The top losers of the day include ICI India, Phillops, HFCL, Pentamedia and Bajaj Auto, HFCL lsot Rs 62.60 to close at Rs 736.70, Pentamedia lsot Rs 18.50 at Rs 476.50.
