Total Turnover At Rs 117.25 Crore

Activity on the wholesale debt segment of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was dull and concentrated in the seven-year government loans maturing in 2004. The turnover for deals done yesterday was placed at Rs 117.25 crore.

Calls opened at five per cent levels and with liquidity in the system the rates softened quickly to 3.75 per cent levels with stray deals being done at 2.25 per cent as well . Overnight money later closed around 2.5 per cent to three per cent.

The securities market saw deals centered around the 12.5 per cent government loan maturing in 2004 giving yields of 12.52 per cent. This activity is on account of the government auction of seven-year loan slated for tomorrow said a money market dealer with a private sector bank. The 12.5 per cent central government loan maturing in 2004 dealt for Rs 30 crore and the 13.05 per cent state government loan maturing in 2007 for Rs 5 crore at 12.94 per cent yield.

 

Treasury bills saw deals in the 364-day treasury bills maturing in April 98 exchanged for Rs 10 crore at nine per cent yield. The corporate debentures segment saw activity of Rs 2.84 lakh of which the 17 per cent issue of Punwire maturing in 2000 changing hands for Rs 2.02 crore at 16.95 per cent yield.
