Use Of Varied Jute Products Key To Sector Revival

The revival of jute industry can take place only when diversified jute products are used and when exploitation of the small and marginal farmers growing fibre crops by the manufacturers is reduced to a low minimum.
This was said by the additional secretary to the Union textiles ministry D P Bagchi while addressing the inaugural session of National workshop on techno-economic viability of jute diversified products for commercialisation, here today.
The two-day workshop was organised by the Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA).

Bagchi noted that mutual exploitation cannot sustain a relationship.
Thus a win-win situation has to be established in the jute industry,he said.
Bagchi emphasised that entrepreneurs would have to take a risk in entering the production of diversified jute goods which was a new concept in the market.
These risks could be offset by giving interest-free loans to the entrepreneurs.
The jute commissioner, Bimal Pande, said investment worth Rs 50 crore had been made in this area, while another Rs 70 crore worth of investments were in the pipeline.
