Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd's (BSNL) coverage in rural areas came as a blessing for several passengers trapped in the Indore-Gandhinagar Shanti Express, which was stranded in over six feet of water near Dakor railway station in Kheda district.

The state owned mobile service provider was the only mode of communication for the stranded passengers with the rest of the world. None of the private service providers have a network at Dakor railway station.

Hundreds of the passengers were travelling from Indore to Ahmedabad when heavy flooding forced the train to stop at Dakor railway station.

Abha Seth, one of the passengers, said: "We were completely cut off from the rest of the world and, although passengers were carrying mobile phones, there was no coverage of private operators. Only BSNL mobiles were working". "We switched off other phones to save the battery to get help using my BSNL phone," she added.

Rajesh Seth, another stranded passenger, is also all praises for BSNL's service.
