Dell to set up plant in Chennai

Dell is setting up its manufacturing unit in Chennai. An announcement to this effect is expected today.

This will be Dell's third manufacturing unit in Asia after China and Malaysia. This is part of Dell's overall push to focus on fast emerging markets. The company recently got FIPB approval to sell its products online on similar lines of its famous direct to consumer model which catapulted Dell to its current leading position.

The decision by Dell to go into Tamil Nadu  follows IBM's erstwhile manufacturing unit located in Pondicherry. Besides this plans, Dell has extensive sales and marketing operations in India, followed by customer contact centre in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh.
