Opens new development centre, to hire 600 people in nine months.
Infosys has strengthened its presence in Singapore by opening a new development centre, India’s second largest IT services firm said on Wednesday.
The centre will function as the company’s regional hub in Southeast Asia and help it drive business opportunities in the region, the 1981-founded company said in a statement here.
Located at the Changi Business Park Crescent in Singapore, the new development centre is spread across 25,000 square feet of space with a sitting capacity of 450 people. Infosys plans to expand this further to make it accommodate 1,000 people by end-2012.
The company is also strengthening its employee base in Singapore. Over the next six to nine months, Infosys plans to hire over 600 fresh engineers as well as experienced professionals for the Singapore development centre. Infosys already has one near-shore centre in Singapore which employs about 400 people.
“Infosys has been present in Singapore for the past seven years,” pointed out Ashok Vemuri, a member of the company’s board.
“That country serves as our regional hub allowing us to address business demands in the Southeast Asian market. We now plan to make Singapore our innovation hub and deliver high-quality service capabilities to clients across verticals,” he added.
