India's leading information technology czar, chairman of Wipro Corp, Azim Premji has bought a 150-acre plot of land at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, to set up an information technology project, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh told newswires, according to a report in Moneycontrol.com.
The plot of land is in Greater Noida, which is around 40 kilometre from the national capital. "He (Premji) was satisfied with the geographical position of the land and expressed eagerness to set up an IT project in the state," said Singh.
He, however, refused to comment on the price of the deal. Expressing optimism, Singh said Premji will soon convert Greater Noida into another Silicon Valley after Bangalore.
When contacted, Wipro officials in Bangalore said they were unaware of the purchase, adding that Premji may have bought it in his personal capacity.
