Yahoo! is all set to do a Google with its decision to offer 1 gigabyte of storage space free to Yahoo! Mail users.
By April-end, users of yahoo mail in India will be upgraded simultaneously with the rest of the world to 1 GB of free storage, a company release said.
Yahoo! Mail has also expanded its suite of security tools by offering free virus cleaning from Norton AntiVirus in addition to the virus scanning it already offers.
The 1GB storage upgrade represents an increase of more than four times the 250 megabytes (MB) of space that Yahoo! Mail users currently enjoy.
Yahoo! also offers consumers 20MB attachment limits, along with spam guard, AddressGuard and other additional features.
Yahoo! Mail vice-president Andy Spillane said in the release, "We know that people are using their Yahoo! Mail accounts to send and store more attachments, photos and important messages than ever before. By providing 1GB of storage for free, we continue with our eight-year tradition of making Yahoo! Mail an even more essential part of people's lives."
"India occupies a very special space for Yahoo's global scheme of operations. Our endeavor has always been to provide our Indian users with continued innovations and product enhancements," said Yahoo! India country general manager, Neville Taraporewalla.
Yahoo! Mail also offers integration with several Yahoo! services relevant to e-mail users, including Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! Messenger, My Yahoo! and Yahoo! Photos. Yahoo! Mail is assessable on mobile devices through Yahoo!'s Mobile Internet service on all the major wireless carriers in the US.
In India, Yahoo! has set up a wap portal for download of mobile content, from where media content can be downloaded besides connecting to mail and messenger services.
