While Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad's two sons - Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav and state Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav - have decided to live with their father instead of moving into the official bugalows they are entitled to, several newly-elected RJD and Janata Dal (United) MLAs have "claimed" bungalows of their choice without allotment. A distraught Prasad last week denounced such behaviour and reminded them of the "great responsibility on their shoulders to honour the huge mandate (of the electorate)". He went on to recount his experience of staying in the peon's quarter of a veterinary college for four months after becoming the state's chief minister in 1990. "I even held a janata darbar (interface with the people) there," he added.

3G device landscape in India

Only 45% 3G capable devices have 3G subscriptions in India. The country has witnessed 26% 3G subscription growth in a span of six months, while the 3G penetration in India is only 24.59%. This implies that there is a huge opportunity for telecom operators to tap.One in every four Indian has an active 3G device (supporting 2100-MHz band) in their hand (225 million), while 3G subscribers today are only at 100 million (source: TRAI report August'15). Among them, there are 15.58% (144 million) 3G phone penetrations on 900 MHz.

Driving the future

Is there trouble brewing in paradise? Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Aparna (the wife of his second son Prateek, Akhilesh Yadav's half-brother) has been making statements that sound as if the Bharatiya Janata Party is speaking through her. On her Facebook page, Aparna commented on the intolerance debate. "It is now clear that Aamir Khan is nothing more than an actor," she said, "He acted in such patriotic films as Mangal Pandey: The Rising and Rang De Basanti, but could not teach his wife patriotism." This is quite in contrast with the way the SP has been backing the actor.

Some of the comments regarding Aamir Khan's take on intolerance are quite revealing. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, for instance, said actors like Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were respected in India on the basis of their talent, not religion. She suggested that Aamir Khan send his wife to Pakistan: that will teach her about feeling secure in India. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Indresh Kumar counselled the actor not to work on the agenda (and directions) of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. What the leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha told Hindi newspaper reporters about Aamir Khan is too offensive to print. Sadhvi Prachi, disowned by the BJP, has said that Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and others of his ilk were plotting to divide India.
