State-owned insurer LIC on Saturday said it has amended a framework to allow the induction of shareholders' directors on its board.
LIC was listed on bourses following the largest initial public offering in the Indian capital market last year. The government raised Rs 20,557 crore by diluting its 3.5 per cent stake in the insurer.
Life Insurance Corporation of India (shareholders' director) Regulations, 2023, was notified in the Gazette of India on December 1, 2023, LIC said in a regulatory filing.
The corporation would, upon notice of not less than one thousand shareholders or one-tenth of the total number of shareholders, whichever is lower, elect a shareholders' director through a general meeting of such shareholders, the regulation said.
The person elected as a shareholders' director would be appointed by the board for a term of 4 years and eligible for re-election and re-appointment for another term of 4 years, it added.

In a bid to tighten norms to tackle deepfakes, Google on Wednesday said content creators on YouTube will have to disclose any altered or synthetic content that they post on the platform.
Google said it will enable the removal of AI-generated or other synthetic or altered content on YouTube that simulates an identifiable individual, including their face or voice, using its privacy request process.
"In the coming months, YouTube will require creators to disclose altered or synthetic content that is realistic, including using AI tools, and we'll inform viewers about such content through labels in the description panel and video player. We're committed to working with creators before this rolls out to make sure they understand the new requirements," Google said in a blog post.

Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has moved the Supreme Court seeking a review of its order denying him bail in the corruption and money laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
The top court had on October 30 refused to grant him bail, saying the accusation against him of facilitating "windfall gains" of Rs 338 crore to wholesale liquor dealers was "tentatively supported" by evidence.
A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti, which termed several charges levelled by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Sisodia as debatable, had said, "However, there is one clear ground or charge in the complaint filed under the PML Act, which is free from perceptible legal challenge and the facts as alleged are tentatively supported by material and evidence."
It had referred to the CBI's charge sheet, which said the excess amount of 7 per cent commission/fee earned by wholesale distributors of Rs 338 crore constitutes an offence as defined under

The unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above in urban areas declined to 6.6 per cent in the September quarter from 7.2 per cent a year ago, as per the National Sample Survey Survey (NSSO).
Joblessness, or unemployment rate, is defined as the percentage of unemployed people in the labour force.
Joblessness was high in the July-September period, mainly due to the staggering impact of Covid-related restrictions in the country.
The unemployment rate in the March quarter of the previous fiscal was 6.8 per cent, while it was 6.6 per cent in April-June. The rate was 7.2 per cent in the third quarter of the previous fiscal.
The unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above in July-September 2022 was 7.2 per cent in urban areas, the 20th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) showed.
It also showed that the unemployment rate among females (aged 15 years and above) in urban areas declined to 8.6 per cent in July-September from 9.4 per cent in the same quarter a year ago.

There has been no decrease in the number of train passengers and by the end of the current financial year, the Indian Railways will touch the pre-Covid passenger traffic of 650 to 700 crore, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday.
The minister strongly refuted some reports and comments on social media that the number of train passengers has become half of what it used to be in 2010.
"Post-Covid lockdown, the Indian Railways started its train services from December 2021 and by July 2022, operations were normalised. In the 2022-23 financial year, 640 crore people used the train network," he said.
"This year, according to our conservative estimate, 650 crore people will travel (in trains). The number might go up to 750 crore. So we are back to pre-Covid era when the number of train travellers used to be around 700 crore," he added.
He also dismissed reports that the number of non-AC coaches or sleeper class coaches has been reduced.

An Indian national was on Wednesday charged here by federal prosecutors in connection with his participation in a foiled plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist on American soil.
Nikhil Gupta, 52, has been charged with murder-for-hire, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Matthew G. Olsen said.
US authorities said Gupta agreed to pay an assassin USD 100,000 to kill the Sikh separatist leader living in New York City.
"On or about June 9, 2023, CC-1 and GUPTA arranged for an associate to deliver USD 15,000 in cash to the UC in Manhattan, New York, as an advance payment for the murder," according to the charges.
The indictment has not named the US citizen but The Financial Times, citing unnamed sources, last week reported that US authorities thwarted a plot to assassinate banned Sikhs for Justice's Gurpatwant Singh Pannun,
