The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) return to their home ground, aiming to bounce back and turn the tide in their favor as they face the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 40 of the IPL 2025. DC skipper Axar Patel won the coin toss and decided to bowl first in Lucknow tonight.
The much-anticipated clash takes place tonight at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Delhi, led by Rishabh Pant, enters the contest after edging out Rajasthan Royals by just two runs in a thrilling encounter and will look to build on that momentum as they push for a playoff berth.
While Delhi’s recent win was crucial, Rishabh Pant’s individual form remains a concern. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter has only scored 106 runs in eight matches this season. Interestingly, his sole half-century came on this very ground, giving DC hope that he could rediscover his rhythm at a familiar venue.
On the other side, DC had a strong start to their campaign with four straight victories but have stumbled lately, losing two of their last three games. Axar Patel and his side fell short against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad and will now need to regroup quickly for a tough away challenge.
Fans will also recall the nail-biting finish in Vizag earlier this season, where Delhi snatched a one-wicket win over LSG, thanks to Ashutosh Sharma’s last-over brilliance—a moment that added a new chapter to this growing rivalry.

Ekana Stadium, Lucknow: Pitch report for LSG vs DC IPL 2025
The pitch report from Lucknow courtesy of Deep Dasgupta and Shane Watson - "The average score here at this venue is around 190. Take this pitch to any other venue, it'll be 210-215 because of the dimension of this ground. It's quite a big venue here. 72m and 60m square boundaries, down the ground it's 78m. This pitch has been used before. It's a red soil pitch,"
More insights from Shane Watson - "It looks like a really nice surface. The one thing that I saw straightaway is how hard this surface is. If you come down and have a look at this surface and hear it, there's been a lot of rolling on this surface. As soon as I came out and put my fingers into the surface, it made me want to put on the pads. It is red soil, so there's going to be pace and bounce for the quicks, there's going to be a little bit of grip on this surface as well for the spinners. It's going to be a very good cricket wicket. If you bowl well, things will go well. If you bat well, there's going to be shots all around the ground. The Lucknow Super Giants batters, top three in particular, they are gonna want to make the most of this surface." Dasgupta adds, "It might turn a little in the first half, almost the same way it played in the first game where LSG got 172 batting first and it was chased down rather easily by Punjab Kings. This might be a 'win the toss and chase' kind of a pitch."
