South Africa started aggressively after being put in to bat but were pulled back effectively by Australia in the second half of their innings. They lost skipper Aiden Markram early, but Lhuan-dre Pretorius counterattacked with five boundaries in the powerplay before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis.  Check India squad announcement for Asia Cup 2025 live updates here

Dewald Brevis walked in and picked up from his brilliant performance in the previous game, smashing a 22-ball fifty and dominating the Australian bowlers alongside Tristan Stubbs. At 108/3 after 11 overs, South Africa looked set for a total around 200.

However, the game turned when Ellis dismissed Brevis with a well-disguised slower ball, caught brilliantly by Glenn Maxwell at long-on. After Brevis’ exit, the momentum shifted. Australia's spinners, Maxwell and Adam Zampa, bowled with control on a pitch that was gripping, while the pacers varied their pace effectively at the death.

In the final 9 overs, South Africa managed only 64 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, ending on 172. While not an intimidating total, the pitch seemed tricky, and the run chase could test Australia

Rising star Dewald Brevis stole the spotlight in the second T20I with a breathtaking unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls, the second-fastest century in South Africa’s T20I history. His fireworks helped the Proteas post a massive 218/7, their highest-ever T20I total against Australia. Partnering with Tristan Stubbs, Brevis added a crucial century stand for the fourth wicket.  Check AUS vs SA 3rd T20I full scorecard here

In reply, Australia were bowled out for 165 in 17.4 overs despite a fighting half-century from Tim David, his second in as many games. Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch made major impacts with the ball, grabbing three wickets each to seal the win for South Africa.

On home soil, the Aussies also enjoy a 6-3 advantage across nine games. With the series tied 1-1, all eyes now turn to Cairns for what promises to be a thrilling decider.
