The key equity benchmarks ended mixed on Friday, as easing crude oil prices and softer global bond yields supported investor sentiment. Market sentiment was also aided by Moody's upward revision of India's FY27 GDP growth forecast to 7% from 6%, citing stronger-than-expected domestic activity and the resilience of the economy amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. However, Moody's flagged elevated energy prices and El Ni-related food price pressures as risks to inflation, consumption and growth.

Quick Wrap: Nifty Metal Index gains 1.51%

The Indian rupee pared initial gains to close unchanged at 95.89 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday amid a strong American currency. Positive momentum in domestic equity markets, however, supported the Indian currency. Rupee's fall was capped as crude prices slid below the 104-per-barrel level, and US bond yields eased after the US Federal Reserve hiked interest rates by 25 basis points. Indian shares ended Friday's session mostly higher as a pullback in oil prices and global bond yields helped ease concerns around inflation, India's import bill and earnings. The U.S. Federal Reserve's first interest-rate hike in three years also instilled confidence in investors regarding the central bank's resolve to bring inflation under control. The Nifty 50 gained 75.80 points (0.33%) to close at 23,346.40, while the BSE Sensex slid marginally by 19.63 points (0.03%) to finish at 74,294.96.

Dalal Street heads into the new week carrying the weight of two defining blows delivered in quick succession. The Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points on 16 September, making it the Fed's first hike since 2023, and signalled clearly that the job is not done, with most officials projecting at least one more move this year. The dot plot's hawkish tilt sent the US 10-year yield surging toward 4.96%, squeezing the yield differential that attracts foreign capital into Indian equities and pushing the rupee to Rs 95.79 against the dollar.
