PoK Residents Face Frequent Power Outage

Muzaffarabad, Pok, Jan 5: Frustrated by long hours of power outages, people of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir held a protest, supported by the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, against the government accusing it of ignoring their concerns. A large number of people demonstrated at the Central Press Club in Muzaffarabad against the lack of basic facilities to the people of the disgruntled region. Despite having enormous hydroelectricity generation potential and presence of Mangla dam and Neelum Jhelum hydropower plant, the load shedding in PoK continues for days, and people often reel under darkness. The electricity generated is transferred to other cities of Pakistan, mostly PML (N) stronghold Punjab. The region requires only 300-megawatts of electricity. But in spite of generating 1,133 megawatts of electricity from the hydro power projects, the region reels under darkness.
