HFCL teams up with Microsoft to roll out pvt 5G solutions for enterprises

Domestic telecom gear maker HFCL on Thursday said it has collaborated with Microsoft to roll out private 5G solutions for enterprises, as businesses eye the next generation technology to spur digital transformation. With the rapid rollout of 5G in India, enterprises are looking at the next generation technology to further their digital transformation, including the promise of Industry 4.0, HFCL said in a statement. "HFCL has collaborated with Microsoft to create converged private 5G solutions that harness new-age technologies of IoT (Internet of Things), cloud, edge computing, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and analytics to transform industry verticals that include manufacturing, retail and warehouse, mining, education, defence, railways, smart city," it said. Reliance Jio buys US-based Mimosa Networks for $60 mn to bolster 5G tech

Jio Platforms, the digital arm of Reliance Industries Ltd, will buy communications equipment maker Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million as it looks to bolster its 5G telecom and broadband services. Radisys Corporation, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms, signed a definitive agreement with US-based Airspan Networks Holdings for acquisition of "Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million on a debt free, cash free basis," the companies said in a statement. While Jio Platforms is the owner of India's biggest telecom firm, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mimosa has a portfolio of point-to-multi-point products based on WiFi-5 and the newer WiFI 6E technologies as well as related accessories. "These solutions have use cases in the backhaul requirements for 5G and FTTX/ FWA rollouts," the statement said. "Jio has been a major customer of Mimosa." Sikkim to get 5G services before Independence-Day: Union Minister Vaishnaw

Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday said Sikkim will get 5G services before Independence Day this year. Addressing a function here after releasing a postal cover titled 'Go Green, Go Organic', the Electronics and Information Technology Minister said the Centre has proposed to cover all villages in the country with 4G and 5G services over the next 18-24 months and work was already in progress. "Sikkim will get 5G services before August 15 this year," he said. Vaishnaw said the Sevoke-Rangpo railway project was underway at a good pace and the development of Sikkim will get a fillip with the commissioning of the project. "The Centre may consider extending the railway network beyond Rangpo and it was working on three alignments, one of which will be finalised in consultation with the state government in the future," he said. The Union minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was personally taking a deep interest in the ongoing infrastructural projects in northeastern states.

Govt offers 5G test bed for free to recognised startups, MSMEs till Jan'24

Department of Telecom (DoT) has offered the usage of 5G test bed free of cost to start-ups and MSMEs recognised by the government, up to January 2024, an official release said on Monday. The release further said that all 5G stakeholders including industry, academia, service providers, research and development institutions, government bodies and equipment manufacturers can utilise this facility at a very nominal rate. The move will encourage the usage of the test bed and give a fillip to the development of indigenous technologies/ products in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision. Several start-ups and companies are already using the test bed for testing their products and services, the release added. In March 2018, in view of India's specific requirements and to take lead in 5G deployment, the Department of Telecommunications approved a financial grant for the multi-institute collaborative project to set up Indigenous 5G Test Bed' in India with a total cost of Rs 224 crore.
