The AIIMS-Delhi on Wednesday cancelled the mock NExT exam scheduled for July 28 after the National Medical Commission deferred the National Exit Test (NExT) for final year MBBS students of the 2019 batch. In a notice, the AIIMS said the process to refund registration fees of candidates for the mock test has been initiated. The NMC on July 13 said the NExT exam has been deferred till further directions from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The NExT shall form the basis of certifying the eligibility of a medical graduate to register to practice the modern system of medicine in India and therefore serve as a licentiate examination. Facing protests by scientists, the AIIMS administration on Monday suspended its earlier order in which it had put the recruitment/selection process of research staff on hold and stated that the guidelines for the same are being reviewed. The AIIMS here will establish a centralised procurement system to streamline the procurement process and promote uniformity and transparency. At present, a decentralised procurement system exists wherein various departments and stores perform respective procurements as per demand, according to an office memorandum issued this week. In a move aimed at better use of medical equipment, the AIIMS administration on Monday asked its various departments to analyse the utilisation ratio of all medical and diagnostic equipment in their inventory by July 31 this year. For the equipment whose utilization ratio is less than 0.5 (i.e. 50 per cent), an action plan shall be prepared to increase the utilization to at least 0.80 (i.e. 80 per cent), according to an office memorandum issued by AIIMS Director Dr M Srinivas on Monday. The director has taken rounds of various areas within AIIMS, and observed that few medical equipment are idling / underutilised and there is potential to increase their utility by sharing them with other departments, the memorandum said. Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday said 262 new medical colleges were built after the Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014. Addressing a seminar here, he also said that while the Congress says that they have built 700 Navodaya Vidyalayas in the country, the Modi government has "sanctioned 692 Eklavya schools" in all tribal and backward districts of the country in just nine years. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday said the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) near Gujarat's Rajkot city is likely to be fully ready by October, as 65 per cent of the work has been completed so far. The out-patient department (OPD) of the hospital is already functional, while a 150-bed indoor hospital will be commissioned in August and 250-bed facility in September, he said. Thirty-nine more bodies of those who lost their lives in the Balasore train accident were brought to AIIMS here so that these mortal remains could be handed over to their family members without any hassle after completion of the identification process, officials said on Wednesday. These bodies were taken from Balasore and kept in six hospitals in the city on Sunday but the bereaved family members are facing difficulties as they have been visiting various health facilities in search of their loved ones, they said. "Thirty-nine more bodies were received by AIIMS Bhubaneswar and put in refrigerated containers early on Wednesday," the official of the health facility said.
