Amid rising COVID-19 cases, a nationwide mock drill to take stock of hospital preparedness will be held on April 10 and 11 in which both public and private facilities are expected to participate. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit AIIMS, Jhajjar on April 10 to oversee the mock drill, officials said on Sunday. In a review meeting held on April 7, Mandaviya had urged state health ministers to visit hospitals and oversee the mock drills. He had also advised them to review the preparedness with district administrations and health officials on April 8 and 9. AIIMS Delhi to launch 'Mission Recruitment' to achieve near-zero vacancies

AIIMS-Delhi will launch 'Mission Recruitment' to achieve near-zero vacancies by September 2023. Director of AIIMS-Delhi Dr M Srinivas, in an office memorandum, said it is noted that a few sanctioned posts at the premium institute are currently vacant. "To enhance coordination between the examination section, recruitment cell and faculty cell, and to ensure timely filling-up of existing and new vacancies, it has been decided to launch 'Mission Recruitment' at AlIMS, New Delhi," the memorandum issued on April 5 said. Under this mission, AIIMS-New Delhi shall target to achieve a "near-zero" vacancy position by September 2023, it said. For this purpose, Professor Rajiv Narang has been designated as the chief coordinating Officer and shall be responsible for actively following up on the vacancy status and the action being taken thereof with the faculty cell, recruitment cell and examination section. An action-taken report shall be submitted on a weekly basis, the memorandum stated.

NGT forms panel to verify claim of air pollution around AIIMS Delhi

The National Green Tribunal has formed a panel to verify the allegations of severe air pollution in and around the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here. The NGT was hearing a plea which claimed that air pollution was jeopardising the health of the indoor as well as OPD patients, doctors and other staffers of AIIMS-Delhi. India logged 524 new coronavirus cases after a gap of 113 days, while the active cases rose to 3,618, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. AIIMS official suspended over irregularities in purchase of medical goods

The AIIMS-Delhi administration has suspended a senior stores officer after several irregularities were found in the purchase of medical goods. In an order issued on March 10 by AIIMS Director M Srinivas, senior stores officer Rakesh Sharma has been asked to remain in the New Delhi headquarters and not leave without obtaining prior permission of the competent authority. "A disciplinary proceeding is contemplated against Rakesh Sharma...therefore,...(he is placed) under suspension with immediate effect," the order said. Study by AIIMS-Gorakhpur reveals relation of smoke, severity of Covid-19

A study led by the AIIMS-Gorakhpur has showed a link between secondhand smoke and the severity of COVID-19 in non-smokers. According to the first-of-its-kind study conducted across six states, reported exposure to second-hand smoke at home and the workplace significantly increased the chances of developing severe COVID-19 compared to those not exposed to it. "The health risks due to exposure to SHS is in infringement to basic human right to life," said Dr Surekha Kishore, executive director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. "Findings of our multi-centre study demonstrate that exposure to secondhand smoke increases vulnerability to COVID-19 severity in non-smokers. AIIMS Delhi to join hands with other govt hospitals for cross referrals
