The Barapulla Road to Maharani Bagh Interchange stretch, along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, will remain closed to traffic from 12 am to 5 am until April 24 due to ongoing construction work, authorities said on Wednesday. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) in a statement urged commuters to take alternative routes. Commuters travelling from ITO, NH-24, NH-9, Sarai Kale Khan, and DND towards Maharani Bagh, Sundial, or Siddharth Extension, or on their way to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg or AIIMS, are advised to use the Ring Road instead, it stated. Similarly, those coming from AIIMS or Lodhi Road and heading towards Sarai Kale Khan, Greater Noida, or DND can also take the Ring Road via Lala Lajpat Rai Marg to reach their destination, it added.

Nearly 35 per cent of faculty posts are vacant in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, the premier healthcare institute has revealed. Responding to a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the administrative officer of the faculty cell of the AIIMS-Delhi said 430 faculty seats were vacant at the institute against a sanctioned strength of 1,235. The application was filed by RTI activist M M Shuja, who sought information about the functioning of the AIIMS Delhi in January this year. The institute provided the information to the applicant on March 18. The institute revealed that it had advertised 172 posts of Assistant professors in 2019, but only 110 candidates joined. In 2021 and 2022, only 173 assistant professors and three associate professors at the College of Nursing joined the institute, as against 270 vacant posts that were advertised. The Delhi High Court has sought responses of the Centre and AIIMS on a plea which claimed the premier institution failed to conduct the spot admission round for Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET)-2025 for PG medical education despite certain vacant seats. Justice Vikas Mahajan issued notice to the Central government and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on the petition filed by several doctors, who appeared in the INI-CET January 2025 session. The court, while hearing the plea on March 28, posted it for April 4. The petition challenged the action of AIIMS in failing to conduct the spot admission round which, it claimed, was to be held after the open admission round for INI-CET January 2025. Government think tank NITI Aayog has formed a committee to create a roadmap aimed at transforming AIIMS, New Delhi, into a premier institution for medical research and practice. The mandate of committee led by NITI Aayog member V K Paul involves thoroughly examining the existing systems and processes at AIIMS and proposing significant reforms along with specific timelines for their implementation, the Aayog said in its annual report 2024-25. The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail till February 4 to expelled BJP leader and Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar for undergoing an eye surgery. A bench of Justices Yashwant Varma and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar suspended his sentence, noting that Sengar's cataract surgery is fixed for Tuesday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here. The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed hospitals, including AIIMS New Delhi, to regularise the unauthorised absence of doctors who were part of protests against the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar took note of the submissions of a doctors' body that some hospitals had regularised the absence of the doctors following its August 22, 2024 order but a few others, including AIIMS Delhi, decided to treat the period as leave of absence. "We deem it appropriate to clarify that if protesting workers had joined work post the Supreme Court order then their absence shall be regularised and not be treated as absence from duty. This is issued in peculiar facts and circumstances of the cases and is not laying down any precedent, the CJI said.
