Aiims Raipur conducts Chhattisgarh's first swap kidney transplant

The AIIMS Raipur has successfully performed its first swap kidney transplant, making it the first among the newer AIIMS institutions and the first government hospital in Chhattisgarh to carry out this complex and life-saving procedure. The Union Health ministry said swap kidney transplant, which is also known as Kidney Paired Transplant (KPT), can lead to a 15 per cent increase in the number of transplants. In a swap transplant, a patient with renal failure who has a willing living donor but is unable to receive the kidney due to an incompatible blood group or the presence of HLA antibodies can still undergo a transplant by exchanging donors with another incompatible pair. Through this arrangement, both recipients receive compatible kidneys, resulting in successful transplants for both pairs. Over one-third of faculty posts at Aiims-Delhi remain vacant, reveals RTI

Nearly 35 per cent of faculty posts are vacant in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, the premier healthcare institute has revealed. Responding to a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the administrative officer of the faculty cell of the AIIMS-Delhi said 430 faculty seats were vacant at the institute against a sanctioned strength of 1,235. The application was filed by RTI activist M M Shuja, who sought information about the functioning of the AIIMS Delhi in January this year. The institute provided the information to the applicant on March 18. The institute revealed that it had advertised 172 posts of Assistant professors in 2019, but only 110 candidates joined. In 2021 and 2022, only 173 assistant professors and three associate professors at the College of Nursing joined the institute, as against 270 vacant posts that were advertised. HC asks Aiims, Centre to reply to plea for spot admission round for INI-CET

The Delhi High Court has sought responses of the Centre and AIIMS on a plea which claimed the premier institution failed to conduct the spot admission round for Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET)-2025 for PG medical education despite certain vacant seats. Justice Vikas Mahajan issued notice to the Central government and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on the petition filed by several doctors, who appeared in the INI-CET January 2025 session. The court, while hearing the plea on March 28, posted it for April 4. The petition challenged the action of AIIMS in failing to conduct the spot admission round which, it claimed, was to be held after the open admission round for INI-CET January 2025. No compromise on quality of health services provided at Aiims, says Nadda

Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Friday asserted that there will be no compromise on the quality of health services provided at AIIMS across the country even though there is a heavy rush of patients there. Nadda also said in the Lok Sabha that the government has covered 62 crore people of the country under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) under which health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh is given to a family per year. "There is no compromise on the quality of health care in AIIMS. AIIMS is a brand and that has to he maintained," he said during the Question Hour. NITI Aayog forms panel to create a roadmap for transforming AIIMS

Government think tank NITI Aayog has formed a committee to create a roadmap aimed at transforming AIIMS, New Delhi, into a premier institution for medical research and practice. The mandate of committee led by NITI Aayog member V K Paul involves thoroughly examining the existing systems and processes at AIIMS and proposing significant reforms along with specific timelines for their implementation, the Aayog said in its annual report 2024-25.
