Amit Shah woos tribals of Poonch, Rajouri during campaign trail in J&K

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Saturday that the tribals of Rajouri and Poonch are defenders of Jammu and Kashmir and the entire country was proud of them, as he slammed rival parties -- Congress, NC and PDP -- for giving "stepmotherly treatment" to these marginalised communities. Seeking support of the Gujjars, Bakerwals, and Paharis for the ongoing assembly elections, Shah urged them to "cover the hills with lotuses (BJP's poll symbol)" and end the "monarchy" of the Gandhis, Abdullahs and Muftis, who he claimed have kept the Pir Panjal region underdeveloped for the last 75 years. Addressing four rallies on Saturday, starting in Mendhar (Poonch) followed by Thanamandi and Rajouri, Shah attacked the National Conference (NC) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress, saying the three parties have enabled the spread of terrorism in J-K since the 1990s. "People here say that the Army and security forces are protecting them. But when you go to Gujarat, Maharashtra, or Bengal,

Cong hits out at crimes against women in BJP-ruled states, questions PM

The Congress on Saturday questioned the "silence" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged sexual assault on an Army officer's fiancee in police custody in Odisha and other incidents of crime against women in BJP-ruled states. Congress leader Ajoy Kumar said in Odisha, some men misbehaved with the daughter of an Army brigadier, who is also the fiancee of an Army captain, and when she went to a "model police station" to get a complaint lodged, she and her fiance were brutally beaten up. "Then a fake case is made and the victim and her companion are taken into custody. In this case, an Army officer writes a letter to a high court judge, saying 'give us justice'. But Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are silent in this entire matter," Kumar said at a joint press conference with the chairman of the All India Congress Committee's (AICC's) ex-servicemen department, Colonel (retired) Rohit Chaudhry. Borders peaceful as Pakistan fears PM Modi: Amit Shah at rally in J-K

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said there is peace along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan fears Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would dare to open fire. Shah was addressing an election rally in this border area in the Union territory's Poonch district in support of BJP candidate Murtaza Khan. He lauded the BJP-led Centre for wiping out terrorism by replacing guns and stones in the hands of youngsters with laptops and said his government would not allow guns to resonate in the hills of Jammu region. "We will construct more bunkers along the borders for the safety of the people. I want to remind you of cross-border firings in the 1990s Is cross-border firing happening today? "It is because the earlier rulers here were frightened of Pakistan, but now, Pakistan fears Modi. They would not dare to fire but if they did, they would be given a befitting reply," Shah said. Infiltrators, illegal migrants vote bank of RJD, Cong, JMM in J'khand: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday criticised the JMM-led government in Jharkhand for "vote bank" politics and vowed if the BJP comes to power, it would chase "each" illegal immigrant out of the state. The time has come to show the corrupt JMM-dispensation exit door...We want to change Jharkhand," Shah said at a rally after flagging off BJP's 'Parivartan Yatra' from Police Line Ground in Sahibganj. Why Hemant Soren hosts Jinnah's party leaders but dislikes Shah: Himanta

Launching a frontal attack on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday accused him of hosting Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) leaders but "showing disdain" for BJP leaders including Amit Shah. A delegation of IUML comprising party MPs ET Mohammed Basheer, MP and Haris Beeran, besides MLA Mohammad Bashir, met Soren at his residence here during the day. A CMO statement said it was a "courtesy meeting". Sarma, who is also the BJP's co-incharge of assembly elections in Jharkhand that are scheduled later this year, took a jibe at Soren saying he has no hesitation in extending a warm welcome to a delegation of "Muslim League" founded by Muhammad Ali Jinnah but has objection to BJP leaders coming to his state. The Jharkhand government had earlier this month urged the EC to ask Union Home Minister Amit Shah to issue an advisory to BJP leaders Sarma and Shivraj Singh Chouhan to desist from "instigating" communal tension in the state fo
