CAG to launch portal in November to make entire audit process tech driven

The apex government auditor CAG will launch a portal in November to provide nearly 10 lakh auditee entities with a unified digital interface to directly respond to queries, observations, and inspection reports. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) is transitioning to a system-wide strategic shift to remote and hybrid audits to increase audit coverage, reduce time for field audit at auditee premises and improve the quality of audit outputs. This transition is anchored in risk-based planning, secure access to government platforms (such as IFMS, e-Procurement and sectoral databases like WAMIS for public works etc.) and the use of geospatial tools like PM GatiShakti to strengthen evidence and consistency across sectors, Deputy CAG K S Subramanian told reporters here. The pilot studies of remote audits in many audit domains have been concluded, and they are now being replicated across offices. Remote audits in receipts audits are advancing faster due to higher automation, .

Global AI standards to be adopted once finalised: Consumer Affairs secy

With artificial intelligence increasingly permeating daily life, global standard-setting bodies are deliberating on frameworks for its ethical use, Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said on Wednesday. "Indian experts are in the international standards-setting committees. Once the global standards are framed, they will be adopted by the countries, including India," Khare told PTI on the sidelines of a PHDCCI conference on harnessing AI to combat fraud and counterfeits in the retail and e-commerce sector. She said that 39 global AI standards already exist, while 45 more are in the process of being developed. At the ongoing International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) meeting, discussions are focused on preparing standards for responsible, inclusive and ethical use of AI, she said, addressing the event. "We have 39 standards internationally. What is ethical use? This was debated internationally... Who do we call safe, fair? Who do we call unsafe, unethical use of AI?," he ...

India adopts techno legal route for AI safety, innovation, says Vaishnaw

Asserting that India has adopted techno legal approach for AI safety, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday said the tilt of the government is more toward innovation than regulation. "We have taken a very different approach in AI safety, whereas the many parts of the world look at AI safety more as a legal challenge. They want to create a law, pass a law, and then believe that AI safety will come," he said here. However, he said, "We have taken a techno legal approach, and our AI Safety Institute is a virtual institute, which basically is a network of institutes. And each of these nodes in the network have taken one problem to solve for." Speaking at the launch of two initiatives -- AI for Viksit Bharat Roadmap: Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth and NITI Frontier Tech Repository under its Frontier Tech Hub -- by Niti Aayog here, the minister said the government bias in technology is more towards innovation. Accelerated adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across industries can contribute USD 500-600 billion to India's GDP by 2035 on the back of increased productivity and efficiency in the workforce, a NITI Aayog report said on Monday. The report titled 'AI for Viksit Bharat:The Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth' further said over the next decade, the adoption of AI across sectors is expected to add USD 1726 trillion to the global economy. "India's combination of a large STEM workforce, expanding R&D ecosystem, and growing digital and technology capabilities position the country to participate in this transformation, with the potential to capture 1015 per cent of global AI value," it said. According to the Aayog, projections show that while AI will create many new roles, it will also displace many existing jobs, particularly in clerical, routine, and low-skill segments.
