Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will hand over his resignation to Governor Kalraj Mishra Sunday evening, sources said, after the assembly poll results showed the BJP was set to return to power in the state. Sources said Gehlot is slated to meet the governor at 5.30 pm. According to available counting trends in the afternoon, the BJP has won eight seats and is leading on 106, while the Congress has won one seat and is leading on 69 seats. Polling in 199 out of 200 assembly seats in the state was held on November 25.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hailed the healthcare programme for the poor initiated by the Rajasthan government, saying that if the party secures power at the Centre post the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, similar initiatives will be rolled out nationwide. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said there is no anti-incumbency against the Congress and the party will form the government in the state again. "There seems to be an undercurrent. Looks like the (Congress) government will be repeated," he said. Gehlot told PTI in Jodhpur that the Congress focused its campaign on development issues while BJP leaders, including the prime minister, home minister and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, used provocative language. He said the BJP leaders who came from outside, including the prime minister and the Union home minister, tried to instigate people. "The public has understood. It appears that the Congress government will come again, he told PTI in Jodhpur. "We made good laws for the welfare of gig workers and on right to health and brought schemes for people and gave guarantees," he said. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday charged that the "red diary" issue and Mahadev betting app case were a "conspiracy" by the BJP to win assembly elections in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
