Virat Kohli has set lofty standards for himself but after finally scoring his first hundred in 1020 days, the star India batter expressed surprise that the 60s he scored over the last couple of years were seen as his failures. Kohli on Thursday smashed 122 not out off 61 balls to get his maiden T20 hundred and help India register a huge 101-run win over Afghanistan in the inconsequential Asia Cup match here. "Today was the build of the last few games, I batted out of my skin to be honest and I surprised myself. What surprised me was my 60s became failures; quite shocking for me, batting pretty well and contributing but doesn't seem to be enough," said Kohli after the win. The former India skipper recently took a month off from the game and that helped him immensely. He knew that were was nothing wrong in his game technically. "I have had many suggestions, lot of advice has come my way; people were telling me I was doing this wrong, that wrong, I picked out all the videos from the b

Virat Kohli reached the elusive three-figure mark after almost three years, albeit in a format "he least expected to", when he struck a memorable 122 against Afghanistan in an inconsequential Asia Cup match here on Thursday. Kohli scored his first international hundred after 989 days precisely to light-up the dead rubber. His 71st hundred also puts him alongside the great Ricky Ponting in the list of most centuries. Sachin Tendulkar is still way ahead with 100 international tons. "Last two and a half years have taught me a lot. I am going to turn 34 in a month. So those angry celebrations are a thing of the past," said Kohli at the innings break. "Actually I was shocked. This is the last format I thought. It was an accumulation of a lot of things. The team has been open and helpful." Kohli credited his actress wife Anushka Sharma for standing behind him like a rock during his turbulent times. "I know there was a lot of stuff going outside. And I kissed my ring. You see me standing
The long wait for a Virat Kohli hundred, 989 days to be precise, ended on Thursday when he struck a high-quality 122 to take India to 212 for two against Afghanistan and lighten up the dead rubber of the Asia Cup here. His unbeaten effort off 61 balls got him his first hundred since November 2019 and 71st overall, equalling Ricky Ponting's tally of international hundreds. He is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar in the all-time list. With Rohit Sharma being rested for India's final game of the tournament, stand-in skipper K L Rahul (62 off 41) and Kohli shared an entertaining 119 off 76 balls for the opening wicket. Kohli started toying with the field and bowlers towards the end of the innings, enough indication that he was back to his best. The knock from Rahul was his most confident one ever since he came back from injury. The openers played brilliantly against the spinners, including Rashid Khan (0-33), an area they needed to address heading into the T20 World Cup. It was vintage

India stared at elimination in the Asia Cup after their six-wicket loss to Sri Lanka here on Tuesday but captain Rohit Sharma said there are no long-term worries as they were experimenting with three seamers in view of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Rohit said the back-to-back losses in the Asia Cup -- the first against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday -- will teach the team how to find answers before the ICC event in October-November. "I was happy with three seamers. Unfortunately Avesh hasn't turned up well in the fitness tests. He didn't respond well because he was quite sick. Ideally the combination we would play is four seamers, but three seamers was something we wanted to try before the World Cup," Rohit said at the post-match presentation. "We need to find answers as a team, like where we are with five bowlers. We know now where we stand with this combination. "No long term worries, we have lost only two games back to back. Since the last World Cup, we haven't lost t

With Avesh's sinusitis problems surfacing, the medical team had no option but to rule him out. However in Chahar, India has a very potent swing bowler, who has

Virat Kohli has revealed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the only person, who 'messaged' him after he unexpectedly stepped down as Test captain following the series loss in South Africa as the former skipper took a dig at "people" who talk on TV but did not reach out to him to help. Kohli had quit T20 captaincy as well but the ODI leadership was taken away from him. However, India's most successful captain relinquishing Test leadership in January caught the cricketing world by surprise. Speaking to media on a rather eventful last 12 months when he was also criticised for his form, Kohli talked about Dhoni's phone call and the bond that they share. "One thing I can tell you is when I gave up Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person who I've played with before -- MS Dhoni," said Kohli after India's narrow loss to Pakistan in Asia Cup on Sunday. "A lot of people have my number and a lot of people give suggestions on TV, but among people who have my number, I didn't get a ...
