Asset under management of National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has crossed a milestone of Rs 10 lakh crore, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Chairman Deepak Mohanty said on Friday. The landmark AUM was reached on August 23 and it took two years and 10 months to double from Rs 5 lakh crore. Of the total, AUM under APY stood at Rs 30,051 crore at the end of August 25 while the figure for NPS Lite reached Rs 5,157 crore. Over 5.25 crore subscribers have enrolled in Atal Pension Yojana (APY), the government's flagship social security programme launched eight years ago, the finance ministry said in a statement. The scheme was launched on May 9, 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective of delivering old-age income security to all citizens of India, particularly to the workers in the unorganised sector. "The scheme has been implemented comprehensively across the country, covering all states and Union Territories with total enrolments crossing the mark of 5.25 crore," the ministry said in the statement. APY enrolments have continuously shown an increasing trend since its inception, it added. In new enrolments, there has been a growth of 20 per cent in 2022-23 over 2021-22. Of this, there was over 28 per cent growth in APY subscribers and more than 1 crore new customers were added. The total pension assets under management (AUM) under NPS and APY grew 23.45 per cent year-on-year to Rs 8.82 lakh crore as of March 4, 2023. "The number of subscribers under various schemes under the National Pension System (NPS) rose to 624.81 lakh as of March 4th 2023 from 508.47 lakh on March 5, 2022, showing a year-on-year (y-o-y) increase of 22.88 per cent," the ministry said in a statement. Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority (PFRDA) on Monday said more than 5 crore people have enrolled under Atal Pension Yojana (APY), the ?agship social security scheme of the central government. The scheme has done very well in the calendar year 2022 by enrolling more than 1.25 crore new subscribers in comparison to 92 lakh new subscriber's enrolment in the calendar year 2021, PFRDA said in a statement. Till date, 29 banks have already surpassed the annual target allocated by the government of India, it said. The total number of subscribers for National Pension Scheme (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) stood at 5.33 crore as of June 4, PFRDA chairperson Supratim Bandyopadhyay said. As of June 4, 2022, the Asset Under Management (AUM) under NPS and APY was at Rs 7,39,393 crore. The number of subscribers in the category of central government employees of NPS was 22.98 lakh and AUM at Rs 21,876 crore. Total subscribers in state government employee category of NPS was 56.46 lakh and AUM at Rs 3,69,837 crore in the period. The subscriber base in corporate and pension categories was 14.79 lakh and 23.61 lakh, respectively. "Of late, (subscribers in) corporate and private segments are increasing at a much larger pace than in the government sector," Bandyopadhyay said.
