Ram, not Aurangzeb part of India's heritage: BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad

Former Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad hit out at the Congress on Saturday, saying its leader Rahul Gandhi needs to change his tutor as he is unaware of facts, as he slammed the opposition party over Emergency. Participating in a debate in the Lok Sabha on 75 years of the Constitution's adoption, Prasad said the framers of the Constitution knew that the Indian heritage is secular in nature as mentioned in the "Rigveda". He said the original Constitution had pictures of Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman and Mughal emperor Akbar, but not of Babar and Aurangzeb. He said in a hypothetical situation, if the Constitution was framed today, the opposition would have protested the insertion of such pictures in it. Attacking the Congress over the imposition of Emergency in the country, the former law minister said lakhs of people were sent to jail and opposition leaders targeted. He said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reached here after facing lathis (sticks) and bullets

Shivaji established Hindavi Empire during time of 'tyrant' Aurangzeb: Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's conduct towards his enemies follows the Bhagavad Gita which talks about protection of the good and destruction of the wicked. Referring to the Sanskrit shloka 'Paritranaya sadhunam vinashaya cha dushkritam' as said by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, he said whenever the Indian society adopts this strategy, it will never be insulted and will successfully protect its honour and self-respect. Adityanath cited couplets attributed to Lord Ram and Lord Krishna's teachings in the Bhagavad Gita to say that words are different the sentiment remains the same and that is "we will protect the good ('sajjan') people, but will not hesitate in destroying the evil ('durjan') forces." Before the staging of the drama 'Janata Raja' based on the life of Shivaji Maharaj, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had established the Hindavi Empire in India 350 years ago during the time of t

Posts on Aurangzeb: Violence not in line with Maha culture, says Sharad

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday said the violence that took place in Kolhapur and some other places over the posters and social media posts allegedly glorifying Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan was not in line with the culture of Maharashtra. Tension gripped Kolhapur city, 285 kilometres from here, on Tuesday after some persons allegedly kept an image of 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan and an offensive audio message as their social media status, resulting in a protest by right-wing outfits at Shivaji Chowk the next day. Police had to resort to lathicharge (baton charge) to quell the stone-pelting and violence that the protest descended into, following which 36 people were held in connection with the incidents in the western Maharashtra city. Speaking to reporters in Baramati, Pawar said, "People of the state and these places where such incidents took place must maintain violence. Whatever happened at two to three places is not in line wi

No one can stop us from rewriting history to free it from distortions: Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said no one can stop rewriting of history to free it from "distortions" as he urged academicians to research and write about 30 great Indian empires and 300 warriors who showed exemplary valour to fight for the motherland. The home minister said had it not been for Veer Lachit Barphukan, the Northeast would not have been a part of India. He was addressing a plenary session of the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary Ahom general. He protected not only Northeast India but the entire Southeast Asia from religious fanatic Aurangzeb, Shah said. The home minister asked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to translate literary work on the life and times of Lachit Barphukan into 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, so that children can take inspiration from him. "I often come across complaints that our history has been distorted and tampered with. These allegations could be true. But who stops it from being corrected now? Who stop
