Ashok Leyland embarks on cross-country expedition marking 75th anniversary

Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has embarked on a 'Dream Drive' expedition that would cover cities and dealerships across the country marking its 75th anniversary celebrations, the company said on Monday. As many as 10 vehicles would be traversing across cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Leh, Kolkata, Dibrugarh, on five different routes commemorating the occasion. The Hinduja Group company is headquartered in Chennai. "As we embark on the 'Dream Drive' to mark the 75th year anniversary celebrations of Ashok Leyland, we reflect upon the journey that has run parallel to the development of our nation," company executive chairman Dheeraj Hinduja, who flagged off the event on Sunday, said in a company statement. "The 'Dream Drive' represents our renewed pledge to further shape the future of the CV industry to support India's economic development for years to come," he added.

Auto majors Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have termed the upcoming Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) as a bold step in the right direction for the domestic industry. While welcoming the initiative, the automakers noted that it would encourage the production of safer cars in the country. "We at Mahindra believe it is one of the bold steps by the Ministry of road transport and we welcome the implementation of Bharat NCAP," Mahindra & Mahindra President, Automotive Technology and Product Development Velusamy R told PTI. This initiative of MoRTH will generate equal opportunities and create healthy competition among OEMs to make safer models for Indian customers, he added. "It is also expected that the government should give some benefits to OEMs that make safer cars to encourage them to continue to do so. This will encourage OEMs to make their cars much safer and offer them to Indian customers at reasonable prices," Velusamy R stated. Maruti Suzuki India .

Kia India receives record 13,424 first-day bookings for new Seltos

Kia India on Saturday said it has received record 13,424 bookings for the updated version of Seltos on the first day of commencing the bookings. Out of these, 1,973 bookings were done using the K-Code which was a special programme to expand the Seltos community by giving existing Seltos owners special access to unlock high-priority delivery for the new potential buyers, the automaker said in a statement. The bookings for the new Kia Seltos commenced on July 14. "We are confident that the new Seltos will reinvent and grow the mid-SUV segment further. Whether its design language, segment-first, and segment-best features, Seltos continues to set newer benchmarks for the industry," Kia India Managing Director and CEO Tae-Jin Park said. Building upon the tremendous success of the K-Code initiative, the automaker is actively exploring the possibility of extending this programme to future launches as well, he added.

Kia India crosses 1mn production mark; to start bookings for new Seltos

Kia India on Thursday said it has crossed the 10 lakh production milestone since making its debut in the market in 2019. The company rolled out the new Seltos from its Anantapur-based plant to mark the occasion. Kia also announced that pre-bookings of the model would commence in the country on July 14. "This is a big moment for us, our employees, and our partners who have lived and supported our journey and helped us in making Kia an integral part of Indian consumer's lives today," Kia India Managing Director and CEO Tae-Jin Park said in a statement. The new Seltos marks the beginning of an exhilarating chapter in the country as the automaker continues to drive towards automotive excellence in the Indian market, he added. Kia made its entry into the Indian market with the launch of Seltos in August 2019.

Hyundai Motor India on Monday forayed into the entry-level SUV segment in the country with the launch of all-new model Exter, with introductory prices ranging between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom). The model, which competes directly with Tata Motors Punch, comes powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated with both manual and automatic variants. The five-speed manual trims, which deliver fuel efficiency of 19.4 km per litre are priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.31 lakh. The five-speed automatic variant is tagged at Rs 7.96 lakh with a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.2 km per litre. The CNG trim is priced at Rs 8.23 lakh with an efficiency of 27.1 km per kg.
