Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain was on Tuesday ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup due to a knee injury sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month. Ebadot, who was named in the 17-member squad 10 days ago, failed to recover within the designated time-frame and has been replaced by uncapped 20-year-old pacer Tanzim Hasan. It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will be able to regain fitness in time for the ODI World Cup in India from October 5. "Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury," BCB's chief sports physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. "We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup. "Considering the importance of Bangladesh team's next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting
New Zealand will tour Bangladesh for the first time in 10 years, when they travel to the country for a split ODI and Test series in September and November. The three-match ODI series will be the dress rehearsal for the two teams ahead of the World Cup in India. The World Cup begins with last edition's runners-up New Zealand taking on defending champions England in Ahmedabad in a repeat of the 2019 final. Bangladesh begin their World Cup journey against Afghanistan on October 7 in Dharamsala. As per the itinerary unveiled by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday, the tour is set to commence on September 21. All three ODIs are scheduled to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The Test series is scheduled to start in late November following the conclusion of the World Cup. The venues for both Tests will be announced later. The second leg of the tour will be part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle. The red-ball clashes will take place after th
Opener Tanzid Hasan received his first call-up to the national team as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup on Saturday. He will be considered along with Mohammad Naim as one of the two opening spots vacated by Tamim Iqbal after Tamim was ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a back njury. Tanzid has been brilliant in the last couple of years and has played tremendously well in the recently concluded Emerging Asia Cup, BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said. He is an attacking opener and could put up runs briskly. We have high hopes on him. Veteran Mahmudullah, who was dropped after the ODI series against England in March, continued to be overlooked despite being called into the fitness camp. There was long discussion regarding Mahmudullah, Abdein said. Team management has given a future plan. So considering all the factors, we have to exclude Mahmudullah. The Asia Cup starts on Aug. 30. Bangladesh, drawn in Group B, will play its first match again
ICC has notified changes in the Men's ODI World Cup 2023 schedule with India vs Pakistan clash moved from October 15 to October 14, 2023
Left-handed batter Tamim Iqbal has decided to step down as Bangladesh ODI captain after a recurring back injury ruled him out of the upcoming Asia Cup. The continental ODI tournament will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 2. The 34-year-old, who had announced his shock retirement from ODIs during the home series against Afghanistan before withdrawing his decision, will be eyeing the rubber against visiting New Zealand to get back into reckoning for the World Cup in India. "I will step down as captain and concentrate as a player and try to give my best whenever the opportunity comes," Tamim said during a press conference on Thursday. "I believe injury is an issue. I took an injection (on July 28), but it is like a hit or miss. I have told them (the board) about the problem. I have always kept the team over everything else. So keeping that in mind, stepping down is the best possible decision." Tamim had withdrawn his decision to retire the last time after
With focus firmly on batting, the Indian women's cricket team will be eyeing a 3-0 sweep of Bangladesh, when the fancied visitors take on the beleaguered hosts in the final T20 International here on Thursday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led outfit won the first two matches without much fuss and will be looking to do an encore when it takes to the field in the third game. However, it is easier said than done given India's mediocre outing with the bat in the second match, which they scraped through by eight runs despite being stopped at 95 in their allotted 20 overs. The hosts were bowled out for 87 thanks to some excellent bowling by the Indians, giving them an unassailable lead in the three-match series. Big-hitting opener Shafali Verma will, once again, be under the lens of the selectors after her twin failures in the series. While her 14-ball 19 eventually turned out to be the team's highest score in the unforgettable collapse, the young batter is well aware of her capabilities and ...
Mehidy Hasan, the all-rounder from Bangladesh, believes that the team's disappointing loss to Afghanistan in the ODI series serves as a necessary wake-up call before the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup
The Indian women's cricket team will be expecting the fresh faces to grab the opportunity with both hands and finishers to flourish in the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh beginning here on Sunday, its first international assignment in four months. The T20 series will be followed by three ODIs beginning July 16. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side was last in action at the T20 World Cup in South Africa where it endured a narrow loss to Australia in the knockout phase. In an era where most male cricketers live out of a suitcase due to a relentless schedule, the members of the Indian women's team has had a lot of time to reflect and work on their game. The last competitive event for the Indian players was the inaugural Women's Premier League in March. India, who now have all the resources at their disposal, have not been able to take their game to the next level and match the mighty Australia on a regular basis. The team needs to improve on various aspects including fitness, bow
Bangladesh ODI captain and one of their most accomplished all format cricketers Tamim Iqbal on Thursday announced his retirement with immediate effect, just three months ahead of the 50-over World Cup in India. The 34-year-old left-handeder made the shock announcement a day after his team lost the opening ODI against Afghanistan here. "This is the end for me. I have given my best. I have tried my best. I am retiring from international cricket from this moment," said Iqbal. "I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, BCB officials, my family members, and those who have been with me through my long journey. They kept faith in me," he added. A hard hitter of the ball, Iqbal played 70 Tests amassing 5,134 runs including 10 centuries and a double ton in his 16 year career. It was in the ODIs that his true potential was realised as a top-order batter, where the stalwart amassed 8,313 runs in 241 games including 14 centuries -- the most for his country. He is also the third-highest ...
Bangladesh players have been urged to forget about the mystery Afghanistan side and focus on their strengths for their one-off Test starting on Wednesday. Coach Chandika Hathurusingha admits they have little idea about most of the Afghan players but that shouldn't be a problem if they stick to ther process. Normally we focus like 25% on the opposition strengths and weaknesses and 75% on what we do, Hathurusingha said. "But as it stands, we don't know much about them so we can't control that. Afghanistan played its last Test in 2021 against Zimbabwe and only four players have survived from that squad. Rested was celebrated legspinner Rashid Khan, who claimed 11 wickets in the win against Zimbabwe and 11 wickets in Afghanistan's only previous Test against Bangladesh in 2019. Bangladesh has its own fitness problems. Captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out by a finger injury, opener Tamim Iqbal is complaining about a back issue, and fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is waiting to be cleared
India will open their ODI World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8 while Ahmedabad will host their much-anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan a week later, according to BCCI's draft schedule for the tournament. "The BCCI shared the draft schedule with the ICC, which then sent it to the participating countries for feedback before a final schedule is put out early next week," ESPNCricinfo reported on Monday. As per the initial draft, the tournament will begin on October 5 with reigning champions England taking on last edition's runner-up side New Zealand in Ahmedabad, which will also host the final on November 19. The venues for the semifinals, which are likely to be played on November 15 and 16, are yet to be decided. Hosts India, who last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 at home, will play their league phase matches across nine cities, including, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru. They will take on Pakistan on October 15. Pakistan, meanwhile, will

Harry Tector's stubborn resistance led Ireland's fightback as the visitors reached 93-5 at lunch on day three of the one-off cricket Test against Bangladesh on Thursday. Tector, who made 50 in the first innings, was batting on 43 with Lorcan Tucker on 24 at the first interval of the day, with Ireland needing 62 runs to force Bangladesh to bat for a second time. Bangladesh took a 155-run lead after being bowled out for 369 in its first innings. Resuming the third day at 27-4, Tector and Peter Moor dealt astutely with the Bangladesh spinners. Their effort put a dent in Bangladesh's hopes to wrap up the Irish second innings quickly. Bangladesh could have removed Tector early in the third morning when he was on 9 but Liton Das put down a chance after the batter edged a slower delivery behind the wicket. Pacer Shoriful Islam finally ended the 38-run partnership, when Moor edged a moving delivery behind the wicket to be out on 16. But Tucker's arrival led to an uptick on the scoreboar
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan on Sunday reportedly informed his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders about his unavailability for the entire ongoing season due to international commitments and personal reasons. The KKR are now in the process of seeking a replacement for the all-rounder. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, Shakib has opted out of IPL 2023 owing to his international engagements with the Bangladesh cricket team as well as some personal reasons. Shakib had already missed the season-opener for KKR against Punjab Kings last weekend along with wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, who was picked up by the franchise in the auction last December at his base price of Rs 50 lakh. It was believed that Shakib would be available for selection post the T20I series against Ireland at home which ended on March 31. However being a part of the Test side for the one-off game against Ireland (April 4-8) meant that the star Bangladeshi would have joined the KKR squad latest by April .
