PC maker Lenovo plans to hire around 1,000 technical people at its first shared support centre opened in Bengaluru for global customers, a senior company official said on Wednesday. The centre will provide technical support to its customer across various verticals. "As we launched the Shared Support Center, we are about 100 people strong and as we grow, we will add to the 1,000 number," Managing Director of Lenovo India Shailendra Katyal told PTI. With accidents on rise on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said he would meet Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and point out the flaws on the expressway and changes to be made. Students will have to shell out more for hostel accommodation as a 12 per cent GST would be applicable on the rent paid, the Authority of Advance Ruling said in two separate cases. The Bengaluru bench of the Authority of Advance Ruling (AAR) said hostels are not akin to residential dwelling units and hence are not exempt from Goods and Services Tax (GST). In an advance Ruling sought by Srisai Luxurious Stay LLP, the AAR said GST exemption was applicable on the accommodation services, of charges up to Rs 1,000/- per day, provided by hotels, clubs, campsites etc. till July 17, 2022. Tata Motors on Friday delivered a prototype of its indigenously-developed electric bus to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has placed an order for 921 advanced e-buses with the auto major, Tata Motors said in a statement. As part of the larger order signed between TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd -- a wholly-owed subsidiary of Tata Motors -- and BMTC, the company will supply, operate and maintain 921 units of 12-metre low-floor electric buses for 12 years, the statement said. The bus is equipped with modern features, providing commuters a hassle-free travel experience, Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, managing director and chief executive officer at TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, said. The new IT office would house Sberbank's in-house data processing centre, it said. While Sberbank's India branch has been active in New Delhi since 2010 and offers a wide range of financial services, the Bengaluru office will be fully focused on developing information technologies, the state-owned bank said in a statement on Friday. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday proposed two separate Metro rail projects in Bengaluru worth Rs 31,328 crore. In his budget speech in the Legislative Assembly, he said a Detailed Project Report has been submitted to the Central government for approval of Metro Phase-3 at a cost of Rs. 16,328 crore. This project encompasses a total length of 45 km starting from Kempapura to JP Nagar Fourth Phase and from Hosahalli to Kadabagere, including western Outer Ring Road line. In addition, a new proposal to construct a new Metro line of 37 km from Hebbal to Sarjapura at an estimated cost of Rs 15,000 crore will be submitted to the Government of India for approval.
