Cong approaches EC for action over PM Modi's 'moorkhon ka sardar' remark

The Congress on Tuesday urged the Election Commission to take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "moorkhon ka sardar" and Home Minister Amit Shah for "Rahu-Ketu" remarks allegedly made during poll campaigns. A delegation of Congress leaders met top officials of the Election Commission including chief election commissioner and demanded that it should act against those responsible for violation of the model code of conduct irrespective of the post they hold. The party also demanded that the sanctity of the silence period in Telangana be maintained. Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said the delegation raised three issues primarily, which included the action against the prime minister and home minister for their remarks and maintaining sanctity of silence period ahead of assembly elections in Telangana, where campaigning for November 30 elections ended on Tuesday. Rajasthan polls: 71.74% voter turnout with stray incidents of violence

More than 55 per cent of the electorate in Rajasthan voted by 3 pm on Saturday to elect a new government in a bipolar contest, with both the Congress and the BJP expressing hope of getting the people's mandate. Polling began at more than 51,000 polling booths at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Officials said voting was by and large peaceful across the state. However, two people - a polling agent of a candidate and an elderly voter - died of cardiac arrest at polling booths in Pali and Udaipur districts. The voting percentage till 3 pm was 55.63 per cent, an official said. In the first two hours of voting, nearly 10 per cent of voters cast their votes and the figure went up to nearly 25 per cent by 11 am and to more than 40 per cent by 1 pm, he added. There are more than 5.25 crore registered voters in 199 seats, out of a total of 200 in the state. Polling in one constituency has been postponed due to the death of a candidate. The voters will decide the fate of 1,862 candidates.

Court to decide on Jan 11 in Pocso case closure against BJP's Brij Bhushan

A Delhi court will pass its order on January 11 on whether to accept the Delhi Police's closure report in a sexual harassment complaint filed by a minor wrestler against former WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Additional Sessions Judge Chhavi Kapoor, who was scheduled to pass the order on Friday, adjourned the matter, saying the order was not ready. In an in-chamber proceedings held on August 1, the minor wrestler had told the court she was satisfied with Delhi Police's investigation in the case and was not opposed to the closure report it has submitted, public prosecutor Atul Srivastava had said. The Delhi Police had on June 15 filed a report before the court seeking cancellation of the case involving the minor wrestler after her father made a startling claim midway through the probe that he made a false complaint of sexual harassment against Singh to get back at him for perceived injustice to the girl. Police had recommended dropping of Protection of Children from

BJP calls Kejriwal 'dishonest' over Delhi-Meerut RRTS project funding dues

The BJP on Wednesday flayed Arvind Kejriwal and called him an "outright dishonest and useless" chief minister, alleging that he is only concerned about benefiting his friends in liquor business and using public money for self-promotion and not the welfare of people. The BJP's attack came a day after the Supreme Court pulled up the Delhi government for not providing funds for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors to Alwar and Panipat and said if the dues were not paid within a week, the funds allocated by the AAP government for advertisements will be transferred to the project. The apex court said budgetary provision was something which the state government should look into but if such national projects were to be affected and money was spent on advertisements, it would be inclined to direct that those funds be transferred for this project. Latching on to the top court's observation, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia targeted Kejriwal and said, "The Supreme Court's
